Around the World in 18 Days
(1923)
Overview
The story follows Phineas Fogg III, the grandson of the famous globe-trotter from Jules Verne's classic novel. Fogg must travel around the world in just 18 days to collect proxy votes from widely scattered stockholders of an international fuel company. The company is headed by the father of Fogg's sweetheart, Madge Harlow. If Fogg fails to gather the proxies in time, the company's vice-president, Wallace J. Brenton, will seize control at the upcoming board meeting on the 19th. Brenton places a $100,000 wager against Fogg that he cannot complete the global trek in the allotted time, while working to sabotage Fogg's progress across the twelve chapters.
